Box Score

Freshman Faith Welch (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) hit a jumper from the free throw line to give The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team a 53-52 lead with seven second remaining but Alfred moved quickly up the court and just before time expired, hit a short 10-foot jumper to win the game Friday night at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium in Brockport.

The lead near the end of the game for Brockport (4-3) was the first since midway through the second half when a free throw by Alexandra Marshall (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) gave the Golden Eagles a 37-35 advantage.

Alfred (4-3) built a six-point lead with 5:37 left to play before consecutive baskets by Hannalee Fordyce (Amityville, NY/Copiaque) and Anna Feller (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) cut the lead back to a basket.

With 2:34 left, Alfred's Emilea Harrison sank a pair of free throws to regain a four-point advantage for the Saxons.

The Brockport pressure defense with less than 1:30 to play forced Alfred to call its final two time outs and with less than a minute to play, Welch intercepted a pass at midcourt and was fouled. The freshman point guard hit both free throws to make it a 52-50 Alfred lead. With 34 seconds remaining, Hannah Rehbaum (Cheektowaga, NY/Sacred Heart) hit one-of-two free throws to make it a one point game.

Alfred missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw opportunity twice in a span of four seconds and Feller grabbed the defensive rebound after the second miss to set up Brockport's final offensive possession.

Feller found Welch open at the free throw line for the go-ahead basket but Alfred wasted little time moving the ball up the court and found an open shot as time expired for the winning basket.

Fordyce led Brockport with 12 points including nine in the first half and also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double. Rehbaum had 10 points while Welch finished with eight points, three assists and three steals for the Golden Eagles. Feller had eight points and eight rebounds.
