Box Score Sophomore Chelsea Stahl (Brockport, NY/Brockport), senior Cayli Carmona (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) and junior Katie Frieh (Amherst, NY/Amherst) each scored goals for The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team as the Golden Eagles posted a key 3-0 victory over Potsdam Friday afternoon in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game on Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium in Brockport.
The win pushed Brockport (9-5-1 Overall, 3-4-1 SUNYAC) into a tie for the sixth and final playoff spot with Plattsburgh with the same two teams meeting Saturday at 1 pm in Brockport. Due to the tiebreaker procedure set by conference rules, Brockport needs a victory Saturday to secure a spot in the postseason tournament. Both the Golden Eagles and Cardinals could be bumped out of the tournament if Oswego is able to upset Cortland in the regular season finale Saturday.
Carmona and Stahl gave Brockport a 2-0 lead with each recording a goal and an assist within a span of six minutes midway through the first half.
Stahl set up Carmona with the first goal with a pass back to the senior as Carmona buried her 11th goal of the year in the 19th minute. Six minute later Carmona converted a give-and-go play and Stahl scored with a shot into the lower corner of the net for her 11th of the season and a 2-0 Brockport advantage.
In the second half, a foul just outside the Potsdam (6-9-1, 1-7-0) set up a direct kick for the Golden Eagles, Frieh lined up the kick and blasted a shot to the right of the wall and past a diving Potsdam goalkeeper for the 3-0 lead.
Catherine Eliasson (Salisbury Mills, NY/Cornwall) made two saves in the Brockport goal and improved to 3-0-1 on the season.
