Box Score Junior Peter DiLorenzo (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) gave The College at Brockport Men's Soccer team a momentous right kick defeating Plattsburgh 3-2 on the road in double overtime and sending the Golden Eagles with momentum into the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament.
With the win, Brockport (9-2-6, 4-2-3 SUNYAC) secures the third position in SUNYAC postseason play and will host sixth-seeded Oswego November 1, with the time yet to be determined.
DiLorenzo scored all three goals for Brockport, including his sixth game-winning goal of the year. With six minutes remaining in the second overtime sophomore David LaPietra (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) sent a crossing pass from the top of the box; DiLorenzo took the ball off his chest and booted the ball while still in the air from just inside the box towards the net and just off the fingertips of the outstretched Cardinal goalie for the golden goal.
Plattsburgh held the lead for much of the game, but the Brockport offense picked up steam in the late in the second half applying consistent pressure. DiLorenzo put the Golden Eagles on the board in the 73rd-minute of play on an assist from LaPietra.
Brockport trailed 2-1 with less than 10 minutes remaining, when Collin Goettel (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) sent a pass from midfield deep into Cardinal territory finding DiLorenzo who dribbled by a defender and found the corner of the net with a low lying drive, tying the game at 2-2.
Junior goalkeeper Casey Sullivan (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) finished with five saves and his seventh win of the season. Plattsburgh's best chance for the win was thwarted early in the first overtime, as a Cardinal found a little space to fire a shot on net that Sullivan easily handled.
