Box Score Sophomore Chelsea Stahl (Brockport, NY/Brockport) scored the lone goal for the Golden Eagles as The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Plattsburgh Saturday afternoon in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game on A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field in Brockport.
The loss eliminates Brockport (9-6-1, 3-5-1 SUNYAC) from SUNYAC Tournament play contention.
Stahl led the team with four shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Catherine Eliasson (Salisbury Mills, NY/Cornwall) made six saves for the Golden Eagles.
Plattsburgh had a chance five minutes into the game to score but freshman defender Lauren Moore (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) blocked a strong shot from the Cardinals. After advancing the ball into Cardinal territory, Brockport senior Cayli Carmona (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) was able to send a shot toward the right side of the goal. The Cardinal goalkeeper blocked the shot but was unable to hold onto the ball. Sophomore Kaitlyn Niedermeier (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) gathered in the rebound and tried to score but sent the ball over the crossbar.
Plattsburgh (8-7-1, 4-4-1) scored three times before the end of the first half and took the 3-0 lead into the halftime intermission.
Late in the first half, Brockport had another good scoring chance as Stahl was able to dribble through three Plattsburgh defenders. Her impressive footwork brought the Plattsburgh goalie out of the box but Stahl couldn't connect as the Cardinals took a 3-0 lead to halftime.
Brockport came back with high energy in the second half. Early into the half Carmona was awarded an indirect kick but sent the ball just over the crossbar. A few minutes later Stahl had another scoring opportunity as she dribbled around a Plattsburgh defender. Stahl crossed a shot from the right corner but sent the ball wide of the post.
In the 78th minute Plattsburgh extended its lead to 4-0 but Brockport quickly responded with an unassisted goal from Stahl as she sailed the ball to the bottom left hand corner of the goal past the diving Cardinals goalkeeper. This was Stahl's team-leading 12th goal of the season.
Prior to the game, Brockport seniors Laura Thompson (Victor, NY/Victor), Tuesday Bishop (Westerlo, NY/Berne-Knox-Westerlo), Kate Smith (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), Cayli Carmona (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), Gabby Racines (Rochester, NY/Liverpool), Caitlin Milana (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) and Keri Gehrke (Belleville, NY/Belleville-Henderson) were honored as part of the senior day ceremonies.
