#19 Brockport Cruises Past Buffalo State

Four Golden Eagles scored double-digits in the 94-74 win over the Bengals

Senior Brandon Caruthers (Rochester, NY/East) scored a team-high 22 points to help lead The College at Brockport men's basketball team to a 94-74 victory over Buffalo State in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup on the road Friday night.

Brockport (19-2, 14-1 SUNYAC) put together a key 9-0 run at the end of the first half to take control of the game and never looked back.

Buffalo State (11-12, 7-9 SUNYAC) opened up the game quickly, putting together a 13-6 run to take a seven point lead in the first five minutes of play. The Bengals were off to the races, but Brockport managed to slow things down and regain their composure. Patrick Coyle (North Chili, NY/Bishop Kearney) started a 10-0 run to give the Golden Eagles the lead back with 11:26 left in the first half.

The game remained close for the next six minutes, with five ties. The Golden Eagles key 9-0 run came with 1:50 to play. Caruthers converted on a three point play to start the run and also added a layup. Coyle and John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) also added points during the run.

The Bengals hit two free throws with 16 second on the clock, but Ivy pushed the Brockport lead back out to 11 with a layup in the final second. The Golden Eagles headed into halftime up 49-38.

The Golden Eagles continued their strong play in the second half. Dorian Hayden (East Northport, NY/Northport) opened up play with a layup to push Brockport's lead out to 13.

Buffalo State answered with a big dunk, to cut the lead back down to 11, but it was the closest that the Bengals would get the rest of the game.

A layup from Bobby Bell (Rochester, NY/East) gave Brockport a 22 point lead, the largest of the game, at 12:04.

The Bengals made a small run at the eight-minute mark, but Brockport was able to push their lead back out to 22 in the final minutes of the game.

Caruthers led the Golden Eagles on offense with 22 points. Clifton Lyerly (Inwood, NY/Lawrence) added 18 points, while Ivy had 16 points and Olusola Adeniran (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) chipped in 10 points. Coyle had a team-high nine rebounds and seven blocks.

Brockport shot well as a team, finishing the game with a 52.2 (36-69) shooting percentage from the floor. From long range, Brockport did not fare as well, only shooting 25% (3-12). From the free throw line the team finished 63.3% (19-30).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday afternoon for a 4 pm SUNYAC matchup again Fredonia.
