Gabriel Arias (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) qualified for NCAA zones in diving, while junior
Melanie Melewski (New Baltimore, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk recorded two first place finishes as The College at Brockport men's and women's swimming and diving team competed at the Geneseo Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Arias recorded personal bests in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive. He scored 464.55 points on 11 dives for his second NCAA zones qualification and an automatic trip the NCAA Zones at the end of the month. In the 1-meter dive, Arias recorded his first NCAA zones qualification as well as a second place finish with an overall score of 436.65 on 11 dives.
The men's team finished in third place overall with a total of 275 points. Geneseo took home the top team finish with 583 points, while Oswego came in second with 385 points and Alfred State came in fourth with 84 points.
Brockport's men's 400-yard medley relay started off the day with a third place finish.
Nik Von Stackelberg (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond),
Matthew Panebianco (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone),
Austin Moyer (Newport News, VA/Woodside) and Eric Zawislak (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) finished the race in 3:49.96.
Von Stackelberg also recorded a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, recording a time of 1:50.07.
Moyer recorded a second place finish as well in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.02. In the 50-yard freestyle, recorded a time of 23:09 for a third place finish.
The women's team finished the Invitational in second place overall with a total of 378 points. Geneseo earned the top team spot with 600 points, while Oswego was third (240), Alfred State fourth (48) and Mansfield fifth (27).
Brockport's women's 400-yard medley relay earned a second place finish to get the Golden Eagles started.
Taylor Schaffert (Lockport, NY/Lockport),
Rachel Coia (Rochester, NY/Spencerport),
Erin Luke (Latham, NY/Shaker) and Melewski recorded a time of 4:11.70.
Melewski earned her two first place finishes in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke. In the 100-yard race, Melewski just edged out second place with a time of 1:08.73. In the 200-yard race, she finished six seconds ahead of the competition with a final time of 2:30.64.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Schaffert recorded a second place finish with a time of 25.60.
Also taking home a second place finish was
Alanna Blasting (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) in the 200-yard IM. Blasting recorded a time of 2:24.14.
The Golden Eagles closed out the night with a second place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Schaffert, Melewski, Luke and
Amy Jessmer (Albion, NY/Albion) combined for a time of 3:50.62.
Brockport returns to action for conference championships starting at 10 am on February 19 at Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY. The championships run through February 22.
