Box Score Senior Laura Thompson (Victor, NY/Victor) made nine saves leading The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team to a 2-1 victory Thursday afternoon over St. John Fisher in a non-conference matchup at Growney Stadium in Pittsford.
Brockport (3-0) remained undefeated with the victory as senior Cayli Carmona (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) headed a ball across the box to sophomore Chelsea Stahl (Brockport, NY/Brockport) who used a one-timer shot to score and put the Golden Eagles ahead less than 25 minutes into the contest.
"It's nice to be 3-0 but we still have more to work on," said Head Coach Joan Schockow. "It is always a good win to beat (St. John) Fisher at home."
Two minutes later, St. John Fisher (1-2) lined up a corner kick and the ensuing shot was saved by a diving Thompson. Another diving stop at the 14 minutes mark preserved the 1-0 Brockport lead as the teams headed to the halftime intermission.
Early in the second half, the Cardinals nearly tied the game as a pass from the end line out to the middle of the box gave St. John Fisher a great scoring opportunity. A shot toward the top of the goal was tipped off the top of the cross bar and out of danger.
With 33 minutes left in the second half, Brockport secured a two-goal lead as Carmona scored into the lower corner of the goal from 20-yards out.
Stahl nearly made it a 3-0 lead with eight minutes left as she drilled a shot off the cross bar but the Cardinals took the rebound and moved down the field in transition and eventually scored with a shot into the lower corner of the goal.
Late in the game, St. John Fisher had another opportunity off a corner kick but the shot sailed over the goal and with less than a minute to play, Thompson made one last save to secure the victory.
