Box Score Sophomore Stephanie Drago (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) scored the lone goal for The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team (3-1) in their 2-1 loss to Nazareth College (3-1) to conclude the Golden Challenge for a Pink Cure Weekend. Senior goalie Laura Thompson (Victor, NY/Victor) made 14 saves on the night for the Golden Eagles.
In a showcase between the two original Golden Challenge for a Pink Cure teams, Brockport was outshot an astounding 29-7. Nazareth also held the advantage with eight corner kicks to Brockport's zero.
With the score tied 0-0 for most of the first half Nazareth took the lead with a goal in the 44th minute. The Golden Flyers strengthened their lead with another goal minutes into the second half, taking a 2-0 advantage.
Brockport trimmed the lead to 2-1 with an unassisted goal by Drago, and attempted to tie it with a shot by senior Cayli Carmona (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia). Carmona's shot during the 57th minute was saved. That was Brockport's last shot attempt on net.
Brockport's goalie Thompson finished with 14 saves as compared to the Nazareth goalie's two, as most of the Golden Eagles shot attempts were either blocked prior to reaching the goalie or were off target.
The women's soccer team returns home for a 1 pm game Saturday September 13 against Marywood University.
