Box Score

Junior Marissa Pike (Burdett, NY/Watkins Glen) sparked the offense in the second half for The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team but the comeback fell short as the Golden Eagles lost 64-48 to Oneonta Saturday night in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match up in Oneonta.

Brockport (2-8, 0-3 SUNYAC) held a lead at the end of the first half behind a strong defensive effort but the Red Dragons shot better than 50% from the field in the second half to overcome the two point Golden Eagle lead.

Brockport quickly took a 6-0 lead to start the game with five points from junior Olivia Suhr (Rochester, NY/Marion) and a free throw from Pike.  The largest lead for the Golden Eagles came at the seven minute mark as freshman Alyssa Rusinko (Fairport, NY/Fairport) drained a three pointer, for the 18-11 lead.

Oneonta tied the score at 20 with four minutes remaining until sophomore Faith Welch (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) made four consecutive free throws to regain the lead for Brockport.  Suhr dominated the offense in the first half scoring 13 points for the Green and Gold.  Brockport took a 26-24 lead to halftime.

The Red Dragons took several minutes to tie the score up in the second half but Pike netted a shot from beyond the arc to give the Golden Eagles their last lead of the game, 29-26. A three point shot from Oneonta tied the score before a run by the Red Dragons put them ahead permantly.

The Red Dragons quickly took a nine point lead with 12 minutes remaining in action.  With help from Pike and Suhr, Brockport's deficit was cut to two with five minutes remaining but it wasn't enough as Oneonta held on for the win.

Suhr finished the game leading the Golden Eagles with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Pike scored 10 of her 11 points in the second half keeping Brockport within striking distance but Oneonta outscored the Golden Eagles 24-6 in bench points. Junior Erin Cunningham (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro) contributed eight rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Brockport returns home Tuesday as they face Oswego at 7:30 pm in another SUNYAC game.
