Box Score The College at Brockport's Jon Carnegie (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) and Patrick Modzelewski (Brooklyn, NY/Msgr. McClancy) led the Golden Eagles with 17 points each in a 91-85 overtime loss in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game against Oswego in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium on the campus of Brockport Tuesday night.
Brockport was down by nine points with 1:42 remaining in regulation. Carnegie and Matthew Smith (East Northport, NY/Northport) led the Golden Eagles, with four points and two points respectively, on an 8-2 run to cut the lead to three with 36 seconds left. A steal by Mitch Cote (Rochester, NY/Penfield) gave Brockport possession with 27 seconds remaining and a layup from Hamed Shamseldin (Lawrence, NY/Lawrence) cut the deficit to one. The Lakers converted one of two free throws for a two point lead with eight seconds left but a quick left handed layup from Smith forced overtime with the score tied at 78.
The Golden Eagles took a quick two point lead in overtime but Oswego tied the game on their next possession and never looked back, beating Brockport 91-85.
At the end of the first half Brockport trailed by nine and Oswego built its lead to 11 points with 14 minutes remaining in action. Carnegie provided some instant offense off the bench scoring back to back baskets, including a three pointer to help narrow the gap. The Lakers responded with a 9-3 run to take a 62-48 lead with nine minutes remaining.
The Golden Eagles began to chip away at the lead slowly but surely as the Lakers missed several free throws late in the second half. Carnegie closed the gap to five points when he nailed a three pointer as Modzelewski found him open in the corner.
Again Oswego rallied and widened its lead to as many as nine points but was unable to increase its lead into double digits late in the second half.
Modzelewski shot 6-of-15 from the field, adding two blocks on the defensive end. Shamseldin finished with 12 points and added seven rebounds to lead the way for the Golden Eagles. Modzelewski and Shamseldin both finished with three assists apiece. Levi Pace (Medina, NY/Medina) chipped in 10 points, two blocks, two assists and two steals.
Brockport continues its SUNYAC play this weekend at home against Buffalo State Friday at 5:30 pm and Saturday against Fredonia at 2 pm.
