Box Score

Senior Mike Gallagher (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) was perfect from beyond the arc as The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team suffered a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) loss at the hands of Buffalo State Friday night on the campus of Brockport.

The Golden Eagles were cold from the floor shooting 35% on the game, as Buffalo utilized a fast start to cruise to a 85-69 victory. Brockport (5-7, 2-3 SUNYAC) played tighter defensively in the second half but was unable to overcome the Bengals 50-35 halftime lead.

Freshman Hamed Shamseldin (Lawrence, NY/Lawrence) led the Golden Eagles offense in the first half, utilizing a quick step to drive down the lane for several layups. Shamseldin's aggressive style drew a couple of fouls which he converted to three points.

In the opening minute of play Shamseldin tied the game up with a layup but the Bengals offense was extremely efficient with the ball, turning the ball over only twice throughout the half. Brockport trailed at the half 50-35.

Buffalo went on a 15-3 run to start the half, and led by as many as 30 with a little more than six minutes remaining. Gallagher helped trim the lead with a layup, hitting from beyond the arc thrice and making both of his free throws. Sophomore Jon Carnegie (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) cut the lead to 16 with two made free throws with a little more than 30 seconds remaining.

Gallagher finished the game with 13 points, while shooting 4-of-5 from the field, including 3-of-3 from long range. Shamseldin also chipped in 13 points for Brockport, while Patrick Modzelewski (Brooklyn, NY/Msgr. McClancy) led the team in rebounds with five. Matthew Smith (East Northport, NY/Northport) and Mitch Cote (Rochester, NY/Penfield) combined for 10 assists.

The Golden Eagles return to action tomorrow at 2 pm against Fredonia in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium on the campus of Brockport.
