Box Score Junior Daniel Aiello (Syracuse, NY/Solvay) kept The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team within striking distance late in the second half of a 66-51 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) road loss to Oswego.
Brockport (6-8, 3-4 SUNYAC) used a 21-10 run late in the first half to help swing the action back into the Golden Eagles favor. Patrick Modzelewski (Brooklyn, NY/Msgr. McClancy) and Aaron White (North Tonawanda, NY/Canisius) teamed up to score 10 of those points for Brockport on that run, and Matthew Smith (East Northport, NY/Northport) scored the final four points for the Green and Gold on that run to tie the game at 27-27 going into halftime. In the closing seconds of the half, Smith drove down the lane drawing a foul before converting both of his free throws to knot the game up.
Oswego scored the first five points of the second half, while Brockport kept the score close. Aiello made three consecutive baskets for the Golden Eagles to pull the game within two points before the Lakers went on an 11-0 run. With five minutes remaining in the game Brockport trailed the Lakers by a score of 56-43.
Aiello scored the final four points for the Golden Eagles all on free throws in the final minutes of the game, before the final seconds of the clock ticked away leaving Brockport with 66-51 loss.
Modzelewski led all Golden Eagles with 15 points while chipping in five rebounds. Aiello scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the line. Sophomore Levi Pace (Medina, NY/Medina) led Brockport with seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
Brockport returns home this weekend with two SUNYAC games playing Potsdam Friday night and Plattsburgh Saturday afternoon.
