Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Records Fall in 3-0 SUNYAC Win For Men's Soccer

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Seniors Peter DiLorenzo and Collin Goettel have made quite the dynamic duo on the Golden Eagle attack since Goettel was shifted from a defensive midfielder to more of an attacking middy last season and the results paid great dividends Saturday with a road State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory against Oswego.

Brockport (10-2-2 Overall, 4-1-2 SUNYAC) defeated the Lakers 3-0 as DiLorenzo and Goettel combined for two goals. After a scoreless first half, the Golden Eagles exploded for three scores in the final 41 minutes of play.

Entering the game, DiLorenzo was tied for second place in school history with 36 career goals which he shared with Chris Monroe (1991-94). He moved into sole possession of second place in the 59th minute as he gave Brockport the 1-0 lead. Goettel's assist also put him in prime position in school history with his 21st career assist which tied him for first place all-time, which he momentarily shared with Mike Abgarian (2001-02, 04-05).

Less than six minutes after the header by DiLorenzo from Goettel off a corner kick the two were at it again. This time Goettel sent the ball into the keeper's box on a free kick in which DiLorenzo was able to capitalize for his 10th score of the 2015 season, his third straight year to top double digits in goals. The assist propelled Goettel into sole possession as the all-time career assists leader in Brockport men's soccer history.

Freshman Quintin Volpe netted his first goal in Brockport history during the 72nd minute of play. He juked a Laker defender and was able to beat the goalie with his shot to give the Golden Eagles the 3-0 lead, which earned Brockport three more conference points and keep the team on pace with Oneonta and Plattsburgh in SUNYAC standings.

Casey Sullivan and the Golden Eagle defense combined for its 10th shutout of the season. The Golden Eagles stellar defensive efforts have led to a 30-5 scoring differential on the 2015 season. Head coach Gary LaPietra commended Justin Mercer and Matthew Roorda for superb defensive efforts in Saturday's game. On the day Sullivan posted five saves earning his 10th clean sheet of the season.

The Green and Gold return home for its final two games of the regular season next weekend. The Golden Eagles host Potsdam on Friday at 3 p.m. and Plattsburgh on Saturday at 1 p.m. with a chance to jump past the Cardinals in SUNYAC standings and earn a bye from the first round of playoffs.
