BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's soccer team fell in on a goal in the final minute of play to SUNY Potsdam on Friday, 2-1.
The Golden Eagles are move to 10-3-2 on the season and 4-2-2 in SUNYAC play, while the Bears improve to 10-5-1 in 2015 and 4-3-1 in league play.
The lone goal in the first half came off a Potsdam throw in, when Brandon Laurin finished a header just above the reach of net minder
Casey Sullivan, sneaking in the shot under the cross bar to take the 1-0 lead at the 15 minute mark. The score would stand through the half.
The Golden Eagles came out of the break motivated, and it didn't take long for senior
Peter DiLorenzo to find the back of the net off a
Quintin Volpe assist to knot the contest at 1-1 with 40 minutes to play.
However it was the Bears who struck next, and it came in the final minute of play. Alex Griffith worked in a pass to take the 2-1 lead with 54 seconds to play. The 2-1 score would stand, as the Golden Eagles fell 2-1.
Brockport outmatched their opponents in several categories including shots, where the Golden Eagles fired 24 shots, with 10 on goal to Potsdam's 11, with five on target. Brockport was also awarded more corner kicks by a margin of 6-2.
Casey Sullivan snagged three saves in the 90 minutes of play.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Oct. 24 against Plattsburgh State at 3 p.m. in a senior day contest. The seven graduating Brockport seniors will be honored in a ceremony held prior to kick off.
