Box Score BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport Men's Soccer team travelled to Oneonta for the first game during a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest road trip, falling 1-0 on Friday to the Red Dragons.
Brockport (5-2-2 Overall, 0-1-2 SUNYAC) and Oneonta were two highly impressive teams last season qualifying for the NCAA tournament in 2014. Both teams did not disappoint with a highly competitive game.
The Golden Eagles played a stout game defensively, but the Red Dragons were able to break the 0-0 tie in the 53rd minute. Head coach Gary LaPietra credited the backline of Chase Crawley, Matthew Roorda, Mark Sylvia and Justin Mercer for holding a potent Oneonta offense in check for nearly the entire game.
In the first half of play, David LaPietra sent a through ball to speedster David Rougeux who then beat the Red Dragons defender and snuck a shot which the goalkeeper made an impressive stop.
The Green and Gold nearly tied the score moments after Oneonta took the lead when Peter DiLorenzo took a free kick in the 62nd minute which hit the crossbar.
Patrick Sprague led the team with two shots on net during the game as the Brockport defense struggled to get consistent pressure on the Oneonta keeper. Brockport's goalkeeper Casey Sullivan finished with three saves.
