Box Score BROCKPORT, N.Y. – David Rougeux scored a pair of goals including the game-winner as Collin Goettel assisted on all three of The College at Brockport Men's Soccer goals in the Golden Eagles first victory over a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent on the season, beating New Paltz 3-1 on the road Saturday afternoon.
Brockport (6-2-2 Overall, 1-1-2 SUNYAC) was coming off a tough loss against an extremely competitive Oneonta team on Friday and was in dire need of a conference win. The Golden Eagles fell behind in the first half but proved to be quite resilient as the team rallied with three second half goals.
Senior Peter DiLorenzo put the Golden Eagles on the board in the 65th minute of play with a header on a kick from Goettel. Brockport could not seem to get much going in the first half of play but exploded in the second half as the team needed less than ten minutes to take the lead.
Rougeux scored his fourth goal of the season when Goettel sent a corner kick pass that he was able to fire into the back of the net, putting Brockport up 2-1. Goettel and Rougeux reunited in the 87th minute on another corner kick for the final score of the contest.
Head coach Gary LaPietra noted that the team had an outstanding second half of play while Justin Mercer had a standout performance on the defensive side of the ball. He also credited the team for a consistent well rounded team effort for the first SUNYAC win of 2015.
Although Brockport held the total shot advantage with 12-10, Casey Sullivan was tested more often as the Hawks were able to put eight shots on net. Sullivan finished Saturday's game with seven saves for his sixth win of the season.
