Women's Soccer Falls Short in Coach Schockow's Finale

Box Score

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The College at Brockport Women's Soccer team put up a valiant effort on the road in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Quarterfinals but was unable to keep up with Plattsburgh as it fell 3-2 Saturday afternoon in the final game of head coach Joan Schockow's storied coaching career for the Green and Gold.

Brockport (7-6-4 Overall) was outshout in the contest 16-8 but refused to throw the towel in, even after Plattsburgh had taken a commanding 3-1 lead on a goal less than 30 seconds into the second half.

Chelsea Stahl brought the Green and Gold within a single goal in the 57th minute of play. Stahl raced towards the net as Christina Leonardo sent a ball across the box which the Cardinals goalkeeper, Stahl and another Plattsburgh defender all simultaneously met at the same time vying for possession. Stahl emerged victorious and sent a left footed shot past the goal line for her sixth score of the season.

The Golden Eagles nearly tied it up later in the half when Olivia Kuter crossed a pass to Kaitlyn Niedermeier. The ball looped in towards an uncovered Niedermeier who struck the ball in the  air above the crossbar.

Niedermeier assisted on the first goal for Brockport during the first half. She sent a ball in towards the box causing a stir amongst the Cardinal defenders. Courtney Szczesniak controlled the ball and shot it past the keeper to knot things up at 1-1.

Brockport goalkeeper Catherine Eliasson totaled seven saves in the final contest of the 2015 Golden Eagles season.

Head coach Schockow retires with the all-time most wins in school history for either men's or women's soccer, with a grand total of 298 victories in 28 seasons as the Brockport head coach. The Golden Eagles last losing season came in 1990, as coach Schockow was able to lead the Green and Gold to 25 consecutive seasons of a .500 winning percentage or better.
