FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's basketball team held on for its second win of the season, an 83-82 win over Farmingdale State.
Clifton Lyerly continued to lead the Golden Eagles, with 23-points.
The Golden Eagles remain unbeaten, and improve to 2-0 on the young season, while the Rams fall to 0-3 on the year.
Head coach
Greg Dunne's squad got the ball rolling with back-to-back buckets from
Hamed Shamseldin and
Ismael Pierre to post an early 4-0 lead. The Golden Eagles carried that four-point lead to the 14:44 mark after A Lyerly three and layup combo for the five-point swing and 11-7 lead.
A pair of Ram free throws saw Brockport trail for the first time in the contest at the 11:54 mark, but the deficit was short lived when a pair of
Matthew Smith free throws at 9:27 tied the contest at 19-19.  The back and forth action ensued, with each team taking turns with the lead.
A 10-2 run down the stretch from the Rams helped Farmingdale out to a 40-33 lead by the final minute of action. A pair of Lyerly free throws to close the half made the Brockport deficit 42-37.

David Clark, and Smith saw the deficit shrink to three.
As the game of runs continued, it was an 11-0 run from the Rams that pushed them out to their largest lead of the contest at 14, with 11:13 to play. The Golden Eagles worked to chip away at the Farmingdale lead, and thanks to smart work in the paint and taking advantage of trips to the free throw line, the Golden Eagles regained a lead at the 3:47 mark. After a Lyerly weave through the lane ended in points, Brockport took a lead by a score of 70-69.

The Golden Eagles battled at the free throw line to maintain their advantage, and were able to come through at the charity stripe. A last second three from Farmingdale wasn't enough, as Brockport picked up the 83-82 win.
