Box Score Sophomore Hannah Rehbaum (Cheektowaga, NY/Sacred Heart) had a strong offensive game for The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team scoring 18 points as it lost to Plattsburgh 67-52 in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) road game Friday evening in Plattsburgh.
Brockport's (7-17, 5-12 SUNYAC) bench was able to outscore Plattsburgh's bench 12-5 but a cold night of shooting doomed the Golden Eagles. Brockport shot 14-of-50 from the floor (28%) while also being outworked on the boards finishing the game with 35 rebounds compared to Plattsburgh's 50.
In the first half of play Brockport trailed for the first 13 minutes of play before a 4-0 run put the Golden Eagles on top. Alyssa Rusinko (Fairport, NY/Fairport) sank two free throws and Rehbaum made a layup to put Brockport ahead 14-13. The Cardinals proceeded to go on a 14-5 run to take a 27-19 halftime lead. Rehbaum scored all five of the Golden Eagle points during that stretch, scoring seven points during the first half.
Rehbaum got the Golden Eagles started in the second half as she assisted on a three pointer from Olivia Suhr (Rochester, NY/Marion). Rehbaum made the next basket, making a jumper with an assist to Erin Cunningham (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro) cutting the Cardinal lead to 27-24.
A 9-0 run from the Plattsburgh, put the Cardinals ahead by double digits until Rehbaum momentarily cut the deficit to nine with a layup with just under 16 minutes remaining. The Cardinals built a 14 point lead in which the Golden Eagles responded with four straight points off of two free throws from Rehbaum and a jumper from Cunningham. The Golden Eagles attempted to put a dent in the 10 point Plattsburgh lead but over the span of the next eight minutes, Brockport and Plattsburgh traded baskets maintaining the 10 point Golden Eagle deficit. The Cardinals used a 6-1 run to finish the game.
Rehbaum scored her team leading 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor while also converting 8-of-10 from the line. Rusinko also added 10 points for the Golden Eagles, including a couple of three pointers. Rusinko and Suhr led the team with seven rebounds each.
Brockport concludes its season tomorrow with a regular season SUNYAC matchup against Potsdam. The road game begins at 4 pm in Potsdam.
