Box Score Freshman Alyssa Rusinko (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scored 10 points, including four clutch free throws for The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team leading the Golden Eagles to a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over Potsdam by a score of 71-62 on the road in the team's final game of the season.
With 40 seconds remaining in the game and Brockport's (8-17, 6-12 SUNYAC) lead trimmed to four points, Rusinko made two clutch free throws to give the Golden Eagles more breathing room with a 68-62 lead. Rusinko also converted two free throws to close out the scoring for both teams.
In the first half, Hannah Rehbaum (Cheektowaga, NY/Sacred Heart) got the Golden Eagles out running to an early lead versus Potsdam with a three pointer to initiate the scoring. Olivia Suhr (Rochester, NY/Sacred Heart) quickly stretched the Brockport lead with a layup and a jumper as sophomore guard Faith Welch (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) assisted on the first three baskets by Brockport.
The Golden Eagles scored the first 15 points of the game when Rehbaum made a three pointer with an assist from Erin Cunningham (Marlboro, NY/Marlboro). The Bears responded with two free throws before Rehbaum quickly negated the two shots from the line with a two pointer of her own. Brockport and Potsdam were neutral over the next two minutes of play, trading two baskets apiece.
Junior Lisa Yacavoni (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) made a three pointer with 11 minutes to play in the half to once again give the Golden Eagles a 15 point lead. The Bears went on a 26-9 run to take the lead, but two free throws prior to the conclusion of the first half from Marissa Pike (Burdett, NY/Watkins Glen) knotted the game up at 32-32.
Pike got the scoring underway nearly two minutes into the second half as Suhr assisted on her layup. The Golden Eagles found themselves with a 15 point lead once again as Suhr was dominant in the paint, making several layups. The Golden Eagles lead diminished over the final nine minutes of play, as the Bears drew within four points in the final minute before clutch free throws from Rusinko.
Suhr led all Golden Eagles with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Rehbaum added 14 points and seven rebounds while Welch scored 11, grabbed seven rebounds and recorded seven assists.
