Box Score

Junior Olivia Suhr (Rochester, NY/Marion) scored 21 points for The College at Brockport as the Golden Eagles dropped a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game on the road to Cortland 56-45 Tuesday evening.

Brockport (5-13, 3-8 SUNYAC) played suffocating defense causing 17 turnovers while holding Cortland to only a single three pointer made in the game. However the Golden Eagles struggled to get much of an offense going, as they shot 30% from the floor including 4-of-25 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Faith Welch (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) and Suhr led Brockport's offense in the first half combining for 19 of the team's 23 points. The Golden Eagles and Cortland traded leads multiple times during the first six minutes of action. Welch and Suhr led Brockport to a 7-0 run to gain the lead with 13:31 remaining in the half.

Welch made a pair of free throws following a technical foul. On the same possession for the Golden Eagles following the free throws, Suhr drained a three pointer after Welch passed the ball to her. Marissa Pike (Burdett, NY/Watkins Glen) stole the ball from the Red Dragons on the next possession, leading to a layup from Welch giving Brockport the 13-8 advantage. However Cortland retook the lead after its 8-0 run. Brockport trailed at halftime 32-23.

The Golden Eagle defense tightened down in the second half but was unable to mount a comeback as only Suhr and Pike were able to make multiple baskets for the Green and Gold. Brockport cut the Cortland lead to less than 10 several times. With a little less than 12 minutes remaining, Pike stole the ball from Cortland. Brockport quickly transitioned to offense as Hannah Rehbaum (Cheektowaga, NY/Sacred Heart) drove to the basket getting fouled in the process. She made one of two free throws drawing Brockport the closest it would get in the second half as it trailed 38-31.

Suhr led the Golden Eagles with 21 points, on 9-of-18 shooting and also tallied the most rebounds with six. Suhr, Welch, Pike, Rehbaum and Tanisha Barr (Rochester, NY/Edison) each had two steals apiece. Welch totaled 12 points while adding four assists.

The Golden Eagles return home Friday at 7:30 pm for a rematch with SUNYAC rival Geneseo.
