Box Score BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The 2015 season began with a decisive 3-0 victory for The College at Brockport Men's Soccer team as three returning Golden Eagles netted goals against St. John Fisher.
Brockport (1-0) and Fisher were neck and neck for much of the first half before a cross from Marco DeBole found the leaping head of Peter DiLorenzo to give the Golden Eagles the 1-0 lead 35 minutes into the contest.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Cardinals 16-6 during the game, which included zero shots for St. John Fisher in the second half. The defensive efforts of Mark Sylvia, Chris Aherne, Chase Crawley and Matthew Roorda made a big impact on the game assisting in the 18th shutout of Casey Sullivan's prestigious Golden Eagle career.
Aherne not only played solidly on the defensive end but chipped in the second goal of the game as he used his big body to fight for position to head the ball in on a corner kick from Patrick Sprague.
DeBole finished the game with two assists as he also helped on the final score of the game from Charlie Cosentino. Cosentino buried a shot into the back of the net from inside the box.
DiLorenzo led the Golden Eagles with four shots including three on net to help pace Brockport. The Green and Gold also had 11 corner kicks compared to Fisher's three.
