Box Score Baltimore, MD – The College at Brockport Men's Soccer team wasted little time in rebounding from its tough loss with a 3-0 win against Bethany at Johns Hopkins University Saturday evening.
Brockport (2-1) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as it dominated the point of attack with 18 shots compared to the Bisons five. Scoring opportunities were abundant for Brockport and nonexistent for Bethany.
The Golden Eagles' defense stifled Bethany, suffocating any attack it put together as they did not allow a single shot to be placed on net. Casey Sullivan finished with his second shutout of the season, facing minimal work thanks in part to the hustle of Brockport's defenders. A few of the Golden Eagles credited for the top notch defensive effort were Chase Crawley, Mark Sylvia, Connor Melanophy and Quinton Volpe.
The Golden Eagle offense was quite potent through the night, as the team scored three goals in a single contest for the second time in the young 2015 season. Collin Goettel got the scoring underway for the Green and Gold when he rifled a free kick on the left side of the field past the goalkeeper in the seventh minute of play.
Peter DiLorenzo scored the next goal for Brockport during the 37th minute of play, utilizing a cross from Connor Melanophy inside the box as DiLorenzo volleyed the ball into the upper deck of the net for the Brockport 2-0 lead.
Late in the second half, DiLorenzo dribbled past the opposition into the box and sent a beautiful post-to-post cross to a sliding David Rougeux's right outstretched foot as he sent it directly into the net, giving no chance to the diving Bisons' goalkeeper.
Brockport enjoyed many scoring opportunities and nearly netted a final goal in the closing seconds of the game. The Golden Eagles remain on the road for the near future as the team travels to Ada, OH to face Ohio Northern Sept. 12 at 7:30 pm and Defiance on Saturday at 2 pm also at Ohio Northern's campus.
