BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's soccer team dropped a State University of New York Athletic Conference matchup Friday afternoon, falling to Oswego State, 1-0.
Brockport falls to 2-8-2 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play while the Lakers improve to 4-10 overall and a 1-6 in the league.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Lakers 27-4 but Oswego scored the lone goal of the contest with less than minutes remaining in the first half.
During the first half, Brockport came out firing with
Nikolas Sgaraglio firing off three shots in less than thirty seconds. The Golden Eagles earned seven corner kicks in the first 45 minutes of play but were unable to take advantage of them.
In the 35th minute, the Lakers scored off a cross from the left corner to take the 1-0 lead.
Brockport held the advantage in shots during the second half, 12-2, but a scoreless frame kept the score at 1-0 in Oswego's favor.
Chris Aherne led the offense with five shots, all of which were on goal.
David LaPietra and Sgaraglio had four shots apiece while
Quintin Volpe tabbed three.
Joseph Romano got the start in net for Brockport but was removed in the ninth minute with an apparent injury.
Ryan Cassidy took over in net, stopping two shots and allowing one goal in 81:10 of play.
The Golden Eagles will be home again tomorrow as they host SUNY Cortland at 1 pm at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field. The team will honor its three seniors,
Mark Sylvia,
David LaPietra, and
Marco DeBole, prior to the start of the game.
