BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Coming off of a crucial win in the Empire 8, The College at Brockport football team remains home to host rival SUNY Cortland in an Empire 8 matchup set for 3 pm on Oct. 22.
 
The Golden Eagles boast an overall record of 4-2 and currently sit at third in the conference at 3-1.  The Red Dragons fell from grace, and the previously ranked No. 24 team in the nation are now eighth in the conference with a mark of 1-4 and 3-4 overall.
 
This weekend will mark the 78th meeting between the two teams who have met every year but one since 1948.  Brockport posted a pair of wins in 2013 and 2014, but Cortland holds the series record with 60 wins.
 
Kicker Brett Renzi and defensive lineman Austin Dean both earned recognition this week for their impressive performances last weekend.  Dean was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week after registering 4.5 sacks for a combined loss of 31-yards.  Dean also tabbed seven tackles, helping the Golden Eagles hold Ithaca College to minus-11 yards rushing.  The Empire 8 named Renzi the Special Teams Player of the Week after posting 10 points behind a perfect four-for-four on extra point attempts and two field goals from 29 and 31-yards out.
 
The Golden Eagles continue their dominance in conference statistics, standing atop 10 categories.  Brockport leads the Empire 8 in completion percentage, third down conversion percentage, defensive touchdowns, punt return defense, rushing defense, fourth down conversion percentage defense, team passing efficiency, net punting, scoring offense and turnover margin.  The 0.727 completion percentage puts the Golden Eagles in second in the nation while the 0.560 third down conversion percentage is good for fourth.  Brockport also is sixth in the nation in defensive touchdowns with three.
 
Cortland has lost two straight including a loss at nationally-ranked unbeaten Alfred University last weekend.  Maleke Fuentes rushed for 155-yards and a touchdown and Tyler Johnson passed for two scores and rushed for two TDs. Quarterback Kyle Schneider entered the game to start the second half and completed 19-of-22 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Tom Hagan led Cortland's defense with eight tackles, including two sacks. Carson Lassiter made seven tackles, six solo.
 
Jake Smith currently ranks in the top five receivers in the conference.  Smith is fourth with 87.1 rushing yards per game and ninth with 6.9 points per game.  On the defense, Lassiter sits at ninth in the Empire 8 with 8.7 tackles per game.
 
Brockport will travel to Alfred University next weekend with kick off slated for 1 pm.  Alfred is currently ranked 17th in the nation with a perfect record of 6-0.
