BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The volleyball team kept up their winning ways on day one of the Golden Eagle Invitational, defeating St. John Fisher in straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-16) to move to 29-2 on the season.
The Golden Eagles were able to test out a number of different lineups in this matchup, as 13 different players registered statistics, nine of which recorded kills.
It was smooth sailing for Brockport in each of the three sets, as they trailed for just seven points throughout the entirety of the match. The toughest test came in the second stanza, as Fisher hung tough throughout most of the set and only trailed by one at the 17-16 mark.
Kathleen Irwin put the game away at that point, serving six straight points to close out the set which was capped off by a kill from
Brianna Richardson.
Richardson ended her day with seven kills, which was second on the team only to
Emma Stoltz who recorded 10.
Sam Holdredge and
Kelly Waters combined for 10, while
Noelle Poloncarz,
Emily Flohr,
DeAnna Ortiz-Whittemore,
Lindsey Luce, and
Jamie Schlesinger all chipped in kills as well.
Blocking was the name of the game in this match, as the team recorded nine in three sets, all of which were assisted. Flohr led the way in that category with four, followed by fellow middle blocker Richardson who stopped three Cardinal attacks.
The defensive statistics were also split evenly, but were led by Irwin and Holdredge who combined for 24 digs. That combo also combined for five of the teams nine service aces.
The Golden Eagle invitational continues tomorrow when Brockport takes on Allegheny at 10 am before a 2:30 matchup with Scranton.
