BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's soccer team suffered a heart breaking loss against SUNY Geneseo in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Saturday, falling 1-0.
The Golden Eagles move to 2-7-2 on the year and have a 1-3-1 mark in league play while the Knights improve to 7-4-2 and 3-2 in SUNYAC play.
In what would prove to be a physical battle, the Brockport defense stood strong for the opening 45 minutes of play, while struggling to find the back of the net, taking a scoreless tie into the break.
In the second half, the tight play continued, with Brockport working for two good looks in the opening minutes of play. The Knights net minder saved an
Anthony Izzo shot in the 46th minute, and a
Mark Sylvia attempt was saved in the 50th minute.
The Green and Gold defense worked to hold off the Geneseo offense, and were successful, only allowing three second half shots. In the waning minutes of play however, Brockport saw their counterparts work in a goal, at the 86:38 mark, that would set the Golden Eagles back, 1-0. Despite Brockport's best efforts, they were not able to break their scoring silence, falling 1-0.
Brockport edged their counterparts in shots, with a 14-6 margin, and had seven shots on goal to just two Knight shots on target. The Golden Eagles were also awarded three corner kick opportunities.
Joseph Romano saw all 90 minutes of action in goal for the Green and Gold, making one stop in the outing.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action when they wrap up their home season on Oct. 14 against Oswego, and celebrate senior day against Cortland on Sept. 15.
