Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

LeBaron posts double-double in Brockport first win, downing Potsdam, 63-57

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Freshman Olivia LeBaron's 21-point second half eruption helped lead The College at Brockport women's basketball team past SUNY Potsdam on Friday in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, 63-57.

The Golden Eagles improve to 1-7 on the season and 1-2 in league play while the Bears fall to 1-6 on the year and 0-3 in the SUNYAC.

After falling behind in the first quarter 15-6, the Green and Gold found their stride in the second, closing the half on a 15-2 run. The Brockport scoring spurt was sparked by a Bailey Pratt three, followed by back-to-back buckets from Emily Nestler.

In the final two and a half minutes, LeBaron knocked down her lone point of the half from the charity stripe, followed by another trey from Pratt. A pair of layups from Faith Welch and Hannah Rehbaum closed the half, as the Green and Gold cut their deficit to just one at 28-27 heading into the break.

Pratt led all scorers at the half with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from three-point range. Nestler added eight points and four boards, while LeBaron had six rebounds.

It didn't take long for Brockport to grab their first lead of the contest, as three straight Golden Eagle scores from Lindsay Johnson, Schyler Laux and Welch posted a 33-30 edge. After trading leads with Potsdam, LeBaron closed the quarter with 10 points, using a pair of treys and two layups to make the count 45-39 heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth, LeBaron continued to produce on the offensive end, accounting for 11 points in the quarter. After three straight scores, the freshman knocked down a three with 2:28 to play, lifting the Green and Gold 57-51. The Golden Eagles held tight to their lead, and an old-fashioned three point play from Johnson and a pair of Pratt free-throws sealed the deal, and Brockport's first win of the season, 63-57.

LeBaron finished the contest, leading all scorers with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while adding five assists. Pratt added 14 points and three rebounds, while Nestler chipped in eight points and six boards.

Brockport out matched their opponents in the paint, outscoring the Bears 28-22. The Green and Gold also forced 20 turnovers, which they used for 20 points. Brockport used hot shooting in the second half, with a 42.42 percent shooting, and knocked down eight threes on the day

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Dec. 10 when they continue their SUNYAC road trip with a stop at SUNY Plattsburgh, with tip off set for 4 pm.
