Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Powerful Brockport squad pushes past Fredonia, 82-58

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's basketball team muscled their way to a dominant SUNYAC win on Tuesday night, using 54.2 percent shooting to bypass Fredonia, 82-58.

The Golden Eagles move to 13-7 on the year and improve to 8-5 in league play while the Blue Devils fall to 6-15 on the season and 5-10 within the conference.

Clifton Lyerly led all scorers with 17 points in just 18 minutes of play, with 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Levi Pace worked into double figures with 12 points and seven rebounds, shooting 4-for-5 from the field. Olusola Adeniran chipped in 11, knocking down 5-of-6 on the night.

On the night, head coach Greg Dunne's squad shot a hot 54.2 percent (32-59) from the field, including 55.56 percent (15-of-27) shooting in the second half. The Golden Eagles doubled up their opponents in the paint, out scoring the Blue Devils by a margin of 50-24 and picked up the rebound category, pulling in 41 boards to Fredonia's 38.

The Green and Gold exerted their dominance from the get go, and after a brief Fredonia lead in the opening minutes, the Golden Eagles took the advantage and never looked back. Aided by an 11-2 run, Brockport established a 15-7 lead after Adeniran powered through the lane for a bucket with 14:27 to play.

The runs weren't over for the Golden Eagles as they worked out to their largest lead of the half following a 7-0 run with a layup-free throw combo from Pace to go with a Ryan McCarthy trey and push the Green and Gold to a 37-20 lead at the 2:57 mark.

The Blue Devils worked to chip away at the Brockport advantage, but the Golden Eagles worked to hold on to a 41-29 lead heading into the half.

At the break, Pace led all scorers with 10 points and six rebounds. Lyerly chipped in seven, while Patrick Modzelewski, Matthew Smith and Adeniran each added four points apiece. At the midway point, the Golden Eagles forced 11 Fredonia turnovers and outscored the Blue Devils in the paint by a margin of 28-14.

The Golden Eagles opened the second half strong, posting a 16-3 stretch, with a pair of back-to-back three's to get things started from Lyerly and Modzelewski to take a 57-32 lead down to the 13:51 mark.

The high-energy offense continued for the Golden Eagles when Adeniran found the rack twice for two powerful dunks split only by a Lyerly bucket to lift Brockport 65-41 with just over nine minutes to play in the half.

The high-octane Green and Gold offense continued to produce down the stretch, working to seal the deal, bringing home the 82-58 win.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action this weekend when they start their three-game road stretch at Oneonta on Feb. 12.
