Strong second half leads Brockport past Keuka, 9-4

KEUKA, N.Y. – A Liam Cannon hat-trick led The College at Brockport men' lacrosse team past Keuka College on Saturday, 9-4.
 
The Golden Eagles improve to 3-1 on the year while the Green and Gold hand the Wolfpack their first loss, falling to 2-1 on the season.
 
Brockport quickly found itself in a hole, as the Wolfpack scored two goals in the first period to take an early 2-0 lead. The Golden Eagles found the back of the cage twice in the second period, with Colin Blind opening scoring to pull within 2-1. Jake Giudice buried a Mark Robinson set up, to even the count at 2-2. Keuka snuck in one more score before the end of the half to take a slim 3-2 lead into the break.
 
In the second half the Golden Eagle scoring exploded, netting five straight goals in the third period. Brendan Fitzgerald got things started, tying the score at 3-3. Cannon found the back of the cage on three different occasions, and got in on an assist to Marcus Palvino to put the Green and Gold in command of the contest at 7-3.
 
Brockport saw the Wolfpack open the final period with a score, but John Countryman and Giudice worked in scores to give the Golden Eagles the 9-4 win.
 
The Golden Eagles out worked their counterparts in several categories, including shots with a 47-19 tally, including 34 shots on goal. The Green and Gold won the face off battle, by a margin of 13-3, and scooped up 36 ground balls to their counterparts 22. Brockport went 15-of-16 on clears in the outing and 3-for-4 in man-up opportunities.
 
Blind and Palvino each accounted for three caused turnovers apiece, while Zach Cook snagged nine ground balls on the day.
 
Conor Nowak picked up 60 minutes in goal for the Golden Eagles in rout to the win, with seven saves on the day.
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on March 19 when they play Utica College in Falls Church, Va.
