Softball Blanks Alfred State; Downs Wooster to Win Sixth Straight

NAPLES, FLA. – The College at Brockport softball team shutout Alfred State 13-0 then went on to beat The College of Wooster 8-4 to wrap up its annual Spring Training Trip in Lee County, Florida.  The Golden Eagles posted their sixth straight win to open the season with a 10-2 record.
 
Game One: Brockport 13 – Alfred State College 0 (five innings)
 
Brockport was on the board early with four runs in the top of the first.  No Golden Eagle recorded a hit in the inning, but five walks, four wild pitches and one illegal pitch allowed Brockport to score the four runs.
 
In the top of third, Brockport scored again off of a bases loaded walk to go up five runs.
 
Brockport recorded its first hit in top of the fourth.  Mikelle Deck led off the inning with a bunt single and would eventually score on a single from Tabitha McBrideMorgan Flamholtz hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Lindsay Wachna.
 
Kathleen Laskey hit a grand slam in the fourth to put Brockport ahead 11-0.  This marks the first home run for Laskey as a Golden Eagle.
 
The Golden Eagles scored their final two runs in the fifth off of a sacrifice fly from McBride and a double from Laskey that would score Elizabeth Kline.
 
Dana Fink pitched the final three innings, striking out two and allowing two hits for her second win of the season.
 
Game Two: Brockport 8  – The College of Wooster 4
 
Brockport battled against The College of Wooster for the first four innings with the teams combining for just four hits.  The Golden Eagles broke out with four runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to earn the win.
 
With two outs in the top of the fifth, Paige Monachino singled through the left side.  Taylor Parlet stepped to the plate and ripped a single up the middle.  A fielding error by the centerfielder would allow Monachino to score and Parlet to advance to third.
 
Delaney Buckley ripped a double to right center field in the top of the sixth.  Wachna hit her fifth home run of the season, this time to dead center to put Brockport up 3-0.  Taylor Parlet would then drive in two runs with a double to left center to extend Brockport's lead to five runs.
 
The Golden Eagles loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh.  Amanda Yuhas drove in Buckley with a single to the shortstop.  Monachino hit a comebacker to the pitcher and would beat the throw, with Karleigh Eaton scoring on the play.  Parlet was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for Brockport's eighth and final run of the game.
 
Wooster scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh off of a double, wild pitch and a two run home run.  Jaime Berger dug in and struck out the batter swinging for the final out of the game.
 
Berger pitched her third complete game of the season, earning her sixth win.  The senior struck out eight and allowed four runs off of four hits.  Parlet finished three-for-three at the plate with four runs driven in.  Monachino finished four-for-four while Buckley, Shelby Perry, and Yuhas each tabbed two hits.
 
After posting a 10-2 record in Florida, the Golden Eagles will return to New York and head to Nazareth College on April 30 to take on the Golden Flyers in a double header scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
