ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The College at Brockport Baseball team had little to celebrate Wednesday evening other than senior shortstop Greg Ruddy extending his hitting streak to 10 games going 1-for-3 on the day in a lopsided 18-0 loss at the hands of regional foe St. John Fisher.
Brockport (16-10 Overall) fell behind early as the Cardinals scored five runs after two innings completed as the normally strong Golden Eagle defense had several lapses in the opening stretch of play. The Golden Eagle lineup was shut out for the first time since April 11 of 2015 when they lost 2-0 to Plattsburgh.
The Golden Eagles managed three hits in the competition as Ruddy, Wesley Burghardt and Luke Gilbert all picked up singles. Ruddy singled in the fourth, Gilbert in the fifth and Burghardt in the sixth. Gilbert made it to third base but the Golden Eagles were unable to advance the Liverpool, N.Y. native the final 90 feet.
Casey Piazza threw a scoreless third inning for Brockport which was only matched by Matt Hogg in the sixth. Ben Barnes was the final pitcher for Brockport and gave up one unearned run while striking out two batters.
Brockport will remain on the road with its next games in Oswego versus the Lakers in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) three game series.
