BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The No. 12 ranked College at Brockport women's lacrosse team put on an offensive show on Saturday, downing SUNY Potsdam in State University of New York Athletic Conference play, 22-6.
The Golden Eagles improve to 11-0 on the season, and the 11-game winning streak sets a new Brockport record in the category. The Green and Gold also boast a 4-0 mark in SUNYAC play, while the Bears fall to 6-5 on the year and 2-2 in league action.
The Green and Gold put on a scoring clinic, with 10 Golden Eagles working into the scoring column to go with a season high 15 assists.
Andrea Zlinsky led the offense with five goals, with Makensie Shuber netting four scores and dishing three assists for seven points.
Jessica Boddery and
Ciara McKeon each buried three goals apiece.
Hailey Boronczyk worked in two goals with
Hannah Cullen,
Kelly Wall,
Taylor Thomas,
Samantha Dooling and
Peyton Pallar each scoring a goal.
Head coach
Stephen Wagner's squad unloaded in the first half with 16 goals. Things got started with back-to-back scores in the first minute of play for the Golden Eagles. The Bears netted a score, but only to see three more Green and Gold shots find the back for the cage by the 26-minute mark for the 5-1 lead.
Potsdam would score their second goal, but it only spurred Brockport on, who answered with three straight goals to post an 8-2 lead just 10 minutes into play. The Bears would work in their final goal of the half, but the Green and Gold would close the period with eight straight scores to take a 16-3 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Golden Eagle scoring slowed, but only slightly as the Green and Gold still posted six goals to their counterparts three. Brockport opened the half's scoring less than two minutes into play. After a Potsdam score, the Golden Eagles netted four straight for the 21-4 lead by the 13:04 mark.
Brockport saw the Bears net a pair of goals before closing the contest with the final say, a McKeon score to make the final count 22-6.
The Golden Eagles picked up an impressive 24 draws, with McKeon leading the way with 10 wins.
Courtney Szczesniak and Cullen each added four draws with Schuber picking up two.
Cassandra Minerd notched two caused turnovers to lead the Green and Gold defense, while Szczesniak scooped up seven ground balls on the day.
Sara Shaddock picked up the start as Brockport's net minder, stopping one shot in rout to the win.
Paige Lammes picked up 30 minutes of play, snagging three saves.
Brockport outmatched their opponents in nearly every category, with a 40-14 tally in shots, 32-18 advantage in ground balls and a 24-6 edge in draws. The Golden Eagles forced 12 Potsdam turnovers, and went 11-for-13 in clears.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on April 19 when they travel to the No. 1 ranked SUNY Cortland.
