BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport softball team dropped a pair of tough contests on Monday against D'Youville College.
The Golden Eagles fall to 13-12 on the year while the Spartans improve to 16-8 on the season.
Game One: D'Youville 13, Brockport 3
Brockport was slow to get the bats going as the Spartans tacked on three runs in the third to open scoring. The Golden Eagles worked for two in the bottom of the same frame when a Delany Buckley homer scored two to make the count 3-2.
The Green and Gold saw D'Youville add seven runs over the course of the fourth and fifth innings to post a 10-2 lead.
The Golden Eagles added their final run in the bottom of the fifth, when another Buckley RBI scored Shannon Allen to make the count 10-3. In the seventh, D'Youville tacked on three more runs to make the final count 13-3.
Korey Kibling threw for four and one-thirds innings, with two strikeouts. Lindsay Wachna picked up the final two and two-thirds innings, fanning two batters.
Game Two: D'Youville 6, Brockport 1
In the second game of the day, both teams were strong defensively to start play. Brockport saw the Spartans break the scoring silence in the fourth when they used a throwing error to pull to a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Shelby Perry batted in Morgan Flamholtz to knot the score at 1-1.
The Golden Eagles again found themselves trailing, after a pair of singles up the middle scored two and made the count 3-1. The Spartans added a run in the sixth, as the final score would stand, 6-1.
The Golden Eagles worked for six hits in the outing, while holding the Spartans to just five. Kelsi Nau got the start striking out two in six innings. Jamie Berger came in to close, and in one inning of play struck out one.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on April 20 when they host the University of Rochester, with opening pitch set for 3 p.m.
