Flamholtz Homers; Softball Drops Two to Geneseo

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Morgan Flamholtz hit her first career home run as The College at Brockport softball team fell twice to SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday afternoon.  The Golden Eagles fall to 17-17 overall and 3-11 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference while the Knights improve to 20-14 and 9-5 in conference play.

Game One: Brockport 2, Geneseo 7

The Knights quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second then four more in the third put them up 6-0.  Strong defense from the Golden Eagles wouldn't allow a run in the next two frames but one run in the sixth made Brockport's deficit seven.

Flamholtz led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to left field and would advance to second as Lindsay Wachna drew a walk.  Heads up base running would score Flamholtz on a wild pitch.  Wachna scored on a RBI groundout from Shelby Perry to cut the score to 7-2.

Geneseo wouldn't see a base runner in the top of the seventh as three straight groundouts drew a 1-2-3 inning.  The Golden Eagles were unable to get anything back in the bottom of the frame.

Amanda Yuhas finished game one two-for-three at the plate while Taylor Parlet, Flamholtz and Wachna each tabbed one hit.  Jaime Berger went the distance in her sixth loss of the season.  The senior struck out seven and allowed seven runs off of six hits and six walks.

Game Two: Brockport 2, Geneseo 6

Two home runs and three runs in the fourth inning would put Brockport down 5-0 after four innings.  One run in the seventh would put the Golden Eagles down six.

Flamholtz gave Brockport some life in the bottom of the seventh, hitting her first career home run.  Flamholtz brought home Karleigh Eaton who got on base with a single.

Korey Kibling went the distance in her eighth loss of the season.  The senior struck out five and allowed six runs off of 10 hits and four walks.  Flamholtz finished game two two-for-three at the plate with two runs batted in.  Yuhas, Eaton and Cheyenne Vivlamore Zion each tabbed one hit.

The Golden Eagles have two conference doubleheaders remaining this season.  On Friday, Brockport hosts Fredonia at 3 p.m. then Buffalo State on Saturday at noon.  The Golden Eagles will honor their seniors in between games on Saturday.
