Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Brockport Earns Two More Wins on Day Two

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's volleyball team won their final two games of the Brockport Invitational, giving them a 3-1 record on the weekend and improving them to 12-2 overall.

Game 1 vs. Lycoming: W, 3-1 (25-19, 26-28, 25-20, 25-11)
Emma Stoltz got Brockport off to a hot start in the first set, recording two kills right off the bat to help get the team out to an early 4-0 lead. A solid defensive performance early in the set helped the team open up a ten point lead at 16-6 before the two teams traded points for the remainder of the stanza. A late run by Lycoming was to no avail, as Brockport took the first 25-19.

After dropping a tight second set that required extra points, the third and fourth set were all Brockport, as they once again used early momentum to put their opponents away. The Golden Eagles never trailed in either of the two final sets, as the Warriors could not keep up with the balanced offensive attack.

Sam Holdredge led all players with 15 kills, and also had 19 digs which was tied for the team-high with Maddy Taylor and Kathleen Irwin. Taylor and Irwin were also the leaders in the service game, combing for seven aces. Taylor's four service aces is a new season high, and ties her career high from last season's match against Vassar.

Noelle Poloncarz had another outstanding outing at the setter position, registering 45 assists while digging up 17 Warrior attacks.

Game 2 vs. Canton: W, 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-20)
The Golden Eagles outpaced Canton in almost every statistical category, besting the Kangaroos in points, kills, aces, blocks, and assists, while tying in digs.

The teams traded points early in the first set, with each team making three point runs to start before Canton grabbed a 5-4 lead. That would be the last lead they would hold for the remainder of the match, as the Golden Eagles turned it on, sweeping their opponent while outscoring them 75-50.

Brockport kept to the common theme of this season: a balanced offensive attack. Holdredge, Jamie Schlesinger, and Deanna Ortiz-Whittemore each notched nine kills in the contest, while Kelly Waters and Brianna Richardson combined for 14 from the middle.

Waters was the leader in the blocking category, recording three of the teams eight block assists. Schlesinger (2), Ortiz-Whittemore (1), Richardson (1), and Poloncarz (1) all recorded blocks as well.

Taylor and Irwin continue to lead the Golden Eagles defensive unit, as the duo combined for 20 digs, while Irwin added another service ace.

Kelly Waters led all hitters with her .583 hitting percentage, and now ranks first in the SUNYAC, hitting at a .406 clip. Also leading the SUNYAC is Poloncarz, who dished out 34 more assists to add to her conference-leading 447.

The Golden Eagles will get a well-deserved weeklong break before conference play begins on Friday, Sept. 23. Brockport hosts SUNYAC pool play, matching up against Cortland, Oneonta, and Buffalo State.
