Brockport falls in defensive battle against Clarkson, 1-0

Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's soccer team faced off against Clarkson University on Saturday, narrowly missing in a 1-0 loss.
 
The Golden Eagles move to 0-2 on the young season, while the Golden Knights improve to 2-0.
 
Brockport saw their opponents score at the 12:45 mark, to post the early lead. The Green and Gold defense answered, holding the Golden Knights scoreless through the remainder of the half.
 
In the second half, neither team was able to break through in a defensive stalemate, as the final score of 1-0 would stand.

"It was a difficult loss today," said head coach Gary LaPietra. "I felt the boys deserved a better result as we dominated the second half of play, but we struggled to find the back of the net. Our defenders Connor Melanpohy, Mark Slyvia, Austin Butts and Michael Meyers played very well. Marco DeBole and Cameron Beale did a nice job in the midfield as did Anthony Izzo and Jake Fusilli."
 
The Golden Eagles worked for 15 shots, with Quintin Volpe leading the way with four. The Brockport defense held Clarkson to a mere two shots on the day, while earning six corner opportunities.
 
Joseph Romano stood tall in goal for the Golden Eagles through all 90-minutes of play.
 
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Sept. 10 when they head to Camden, N.J. to take on Kean University.
