BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport women's basketball team are coming off a rollercoaster 2016-2017 season that saw them finish with a 10-17 record and 8-10 in conference play. The Golden Eagles won their way into the SUNYAC Tournament where they upset SUNY Oneonta in the first round before losing to SUNY New Paltz in the semi-finals.
Lindsay Johnson is the lone senior on this team and will be looked upon to provide leadership both on and off the court. Johnson was the third leading scorer last season scoring 9.3 PPG and shooting 46% from the field. Juniors
Megan Anagnostopulos,
Schyler Laux and
Emily Nestler are three returning players who will need to step up for this team to build on last year's post-season run. Anagnostopulos and Laux will provide valuable depth at the wing position, while Nestler adds a presence in the interior where she will patrol the paint for rebounds and post scoring opportunities.
Sophomore
Bailey Pratt aims to improve on a freshman year where she played the fourth most minutes (693) as a key guard for the Green and Gold. Fellow second-year,
Brianna Neeley, is expected to see her minutes increase significantly from last season, with the potential to become a key player in the low post position.
Emily Merrill, another sophomore, hopes to recover from a pre-season injury in order to contribute on the court.
The women's basketball team welcomes a host of new Golden Eagles to their ranks in the likes of two freshmen and one transfer.
Krystal Hunter is a junior transfer that can play all positions on the court and looks to be a key utility piece for head coach
Corinne Jones.
Julianna Taylor and
Zaria McCullough have received high praise for their ability to swish and dish as the leading ball handlers on this team. They will both have a chance for big minutes playing on and off the ball.
The Green and Gold will start their 2017-2018 season with the Brockport Tip-Off Classic when they will host Alfred University Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m.
