VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – The College at Brockport baseball team fell 9-0 to Ithaca College Saturday morning to fall to 2-3 on the season. Jake Binder picked up the win for the Bombers with
Ben Moxley taking the loss.
Six Golden Eagle batters picked up hits in the contest, led by
Luke Gilbert who went 2-4 at the plate. One of those hits was a double to lead off the bottom of the second, putting him in scoring position with nobody out. A
Nik Malachowski walk put more pressure on Ithaca, but a strikeout and a double play ended the threat.
They were able to string together a couple hits an inning later in the bottom of the third, as
Dane Cala and
Paul Ludden both singled, but Cala was caught stealing to end the frame.
Brockport threatened again in the bottom of the eighth, as
Dave Battel and
Austin Hall got pinch hit opportunities, and knocked back-to-back singles to put a runner in scoring position with two outs. They weren't able to capitalize however, as Ludden grounded out to the shortstop to end the inning.
Five pitchers got work in this outing for Brockport, with
Mark Giallanzo putting together the best performance, retiring the side in his one inning of work.
Baseball will have another road trip next weekend, this time traveling to Wappingers Falls, N.Y. for three games, beginning with Mount St. Mary at 4 p.m. on Friday.
