Offense Powers Brockport To Weekend Sweep

AUBURNDALE, FLA. – Brockport baseball completed the weekend sweep of Plattsburgh Saturday afternoon, moving to 10-5 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. The game marks the end of their spring break trip, where they finished with a record of 6-2.

After coming in for 4.1 innings of relief, Nick Jerolimov picked up his second win of the season. The senior shut down the Cardinal offense, allowing just two hits while holding them scoreless. Mark Giallanzo got the start for Brockport, and also pitched well in his 3.2 innings of work, allowing just one earned run.

The top of the Brockport lineup provided a huge offensive spark in this outing, with Dane Cala, Avery Brooks, and Paul Ludden going a combined 8-14 at the plate. Ludden and Brooks drove in three runs apiece, while Cala crossed the plate four times.

The Golden Eagles scored in five of their eight innings at the plate, putting up 13 runs which is tied for their highest total this season. They controlled the game almost throughout, trailing only after Plattsburgh notched a run in the top of the first.

Five other players recorded hits for Brockport in the contest, including Lou Miceli who got his first at-bat of the trip after battling a hamstring injury. The sophomore came up with a man on in the bottom of the eighth, and cracked a no-doubt homerun over the left field fence, all but putting the game away.

Anthony Eaton, Joe Bender, Drew DeBlasiis, and Jack Wallwork all recorded RBI's in this contest as well, as the Plattsburgh pitching staff had no answer for the Golden Eagle hitters.

With the team leading 13-6 going into the ninth, Mike D'Eletto came in to close the game out, sending the Cardinals down 1-2-3 to complete the sweep and end the spring trip on a high note.

The team will now head back home, where they have games scheduled at the University of Rochester on Tuesday and St. John Fisher on Wednesday. Updates on the status of those games (weather) will be posted when they become available.
