ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The College at Brockport baseball team fell in a tight 8-5 contest at the University of Rochester on Sunday, snapping their four-game win streak. The Golden Eagles fall to 10-6 on the season with the loss, while Rochester improves to 2-2.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first, Brockport scored their first run of the game in the third.
Joe Bender was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, before moving over to third after two straight singles from
Drew DeBlasiis and
Dane Cala.
Avery Brooks was up next and knocked him in with a sac-fly to right field to close the gap.
Anthony Eaton provided the offense in the top of the fifth, pulling a two-out double down the left field line that allowed
Paul Ludden to score all the way from first.
Ludden's day was not done, as the big blow came off his bat in the top of the seventh with Brockport trailing 3-2. With two on and two out, the senior ripped a three-run shot over the left field wall, his first of the season, to give the Golden Eagles a 5-3 lead.
The Yellowjacket's offense notched two in the bottom half of the inning to knot things up at 5-5 before adding another three in the eighth to pull ahead.
Ben Moxley got the start for Brockport, and pitched well through six, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out nine.
Jimmy Lovelass and
Jason Hellwig both pitched an inning as well, with the loss going to Hellwig, his first of the year (1-1).
Baseball will be back in action tomorrow when they play a conference double-header against Oneonta at Houghton College. The first game is set to begin at 12 p.m.
