Giudice sets new Brockport points mark in 12-5 win over Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Jake Giudice became the all-time points leader for The College at Brockport as the men's lacrosse team posted a strong 12-5 win over Lycoming College on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles improve to 3-3 on the season while the Warriors fall to 2-4 in 2017.

After the hosts notched a goal to start play, the Green and Gold posted a pair of answers to close the first frame, with Brendan Fitzgerald opening scoring and Liam Cannon working in a Fitzgerald pass to take the 2-1 lead.

It was all Brockport in the second quarter as Jake Recor buried a Mark Robinson set up at the 11:06 mark for the 3-1 advantage. Cannon would send in two more goals before the end of the half, the first coming from a Fitzgerald pass and the second an unassisted goal for the strong 5-1 edge at the break.

Out of the half, the Green and Gold continued their strong showing, as Giudice connected on back-to-back scores to take the title of all-time points leader in the Brockport men's lacrosse record books, with 135 career points. Following a Lycoming score, Giudice netted the hat trick in the quarter, and gave the Green and Gold an 8-2 edge with 10:57 to play.

The Brockport scoring wasn't finished, as Colton Oliver and Mark Robinson each found the back of the cage to close the frame with a strong 10-2 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Green and Gold had an answer for the first two Warrior goals, with Fitzgerald adding another goal at the 12:24 mark, and Pete Barilla burying a Robinson set up, answering a Lycoming goal and posting a 12-4 advantage. Brockport would see the Warriors add one final goal in the waning seconds, but stood strong to secure the 12-5 victory.

Brockport had a strong showing on the offensive end, while the defense also came up big. Steve Gurin wracked up three caused turnovers and seven ground balls while Colin Blind added three CT's and scooped up four ground balls. Zach Cook added five GB's, while also going 7-for-9 in the face off circle.

In goal, Conor Nowak saw all 60 minutes of action, where he made nine stops and earned the win.

Brockport outmatched their counterparts in shots (50-24), ground balls (38-28), face offs (13-19), picked up 11 caused turnovers and forced 21 Warrior turnovers.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on April 1 when they open State University of New York Athletics Conference (SUNYAC) play at SUNY Potsdam.
