Brockport Rebounds To Earn Split With Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y.- The College at Brockport softball team earned a split with State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rivals SUNY Oneonta on Friday. Brockport dropped game one by a score of 14-4 in five innings, but the Golden Eagles were able to rebound in the series finale, taking game two, 8-6.
 
Brockport moves to 13-11 on the season and 3-5 in SUNYAC play. While the Red Dragons now post a record of 17-7 and 5-5 in league play.
 
Game One:
 
Brockport struck for three runs to open game one, as the Golden Eagles were able to load the bases and Jessica Koneski was able to draw a bases loaded walk. Alison Missavage and Morgan Flamholtz keep the scoring going, getting hit by pitches, putting Brockport up 3-0. The Red Dragons were able to respond in a big way, scoring 10 runs on 11 hits in the bottom half of the frame.
 
Koneski laced an RBI single to left center field in the top half of the second, bringing home Casey Danko, and cutting Oneonta's lead to 10-4. The Red Dragons again responded scoring two more in the second, and adding two more runs in the fourth to secure the victory.
 
Meghan Cullen went 2-for-3 from the plate and scored two runs for the Golden Eagles. Lindsay Wachna falls to 3-4 on the season in the circle.
 
Game Two:
 
Brockport saw Oneonta strike first in the second contest, tacking on two runs in the top of the first inning. The Green and Gold were able to cut the lead in half in the top of the second inning when Shelby Perry single to left field, scoring Flamholtz. The Red Dragons added two more runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-1 advantage.
 
The Brockport offense awoke, to connect for three runs in the third inning. Wachna doubled down the left field line to bring home Karleigh Eaton to start the scoring, and later in the frame Koneski hit an RBI single to center field and Flamholtz capped off the inning with an RBI single to center field tying the contest at 4-4.
 
Oneonta regained the lead in the fifth, adding one run. Again, the Golden Eagles answered the bell when Danko connected on a two RBI triple to right center field, lifting Brockport, 6-5. Perry hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Missavage adding to the Golden Eagles lead, 8-5.
 
Amanda Colon came in relief to pick up her fourth win of the season. The junior pitched the final five innings, allowing only two runs on seven hits and striking out one batter.
 
Eaton went 2-for-4 from the plate, scoring two runs and Wachna drove in two runs on two hits including a double. Flamholtz was 2-for-3 for the game and drove in one run for the Golden Eagles.
 
Brockport returns to action on Saturday, April 14 traveling to SUNY New Paltz for a double header. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
