Baseball Falls To Oswego In Rubber Game

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The baseball team dropped the rubber game of their three-game set against Oswego Saturday morning by a final score of 9-1. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 16-12 on the season and 7-4 in SUNYAC play.

Five pitchers saw action for Brockport in this contest, with Ryan Greco leading the charge on the mound. The sophomore tossed two scoreless innings, conceding just one run which was unearned. Jason Hellwig also got two innings of work, striking out a Laker batter in his time on the bump.

Brockport's run came courtesy of Avery Brooks, who led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a double in the right-centerfield gap. He was driven in during the next at-bat when Paul Ludden sliced a single down the right field line for his 19th RBI of the year.

Ludden found himself on base three times during the game after being hit by two pitches. The senior has now been hit by 11 pitches this season, which leads the SUNYAC conference and ranks in the top-25 nationally.

The Golden Eagles threatened in a number of innings, but timely groundballs from Oswego pitcher Mitchell Cavanagh forced four double plays.

Junior Dave Sicina had an impressive outing for Brockport in the top of the ninth, allowing one hit before retiring the next batter without allowing a run.

Brockport will host a pair of games this week, starting with St. John Fisher at 4 p.m. on Tuesday before welcoming the University of Rochester at 4 on Wednesday.
