Baseball Drops Tight Contest To Fisher

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Brockport baseball team dropped a non-conference matchup to No. 18 St. John Fisher Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 4-2. The loss drops the squad to 16-13 on the season, while Fisher improves to 19-6.

The Golden Eagles got on the board early in this contest, using a second inning rally to take a 2-0 lead. After Austin Hall was hit by a pitch, Drew DeBlasiis singled through the left side to advance Hall to second with two men out. Charlie Serino was up next, and hit a booming double over the head of the left fielder to score both runners.

Brockport would hold that lead for the next 4 ½ innings until the top of the seventh when the Cardinals scored four runs, all of which were unearned. The big blow was a three-run shot with two outs that put Fisher on top.

In the bottom half of the seventh, the Green and Gold nearly got a run back, as Paul Ludden smacked a line drive single to center field with runners on first and second, but DeBlasiis was called out at the plate on a bang-bang play, ending the inning.

They threatened again in both the eighth and ninth, putting multiple runners in scoring position, including a bases loaded situation in the bottom half of the ninth, but timely pitching by St. John Fisher allowed them to escape with the win.

Four Golden Eagles came in to pitch during the contest, all throwing extremely well, combining for nine strikeouts without allowing an earned run. Ben Moxley had the strongest outing, starting the game and throwing the first four innings, surrendering just one hit and striking out three.

Baseball will have a chance to get back in the win column tomorrow afternoon, as they host the University of Rochester for a game set to begin at 4 p.m.
