POTSDAM, N.Y. – The No. 6/19 College at Brockport women's lacrosse team picked up a convincing State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win on Saturday, blowing by SUNY Potsdam, 16-2.
The Golden Eagles improve to 12-1 on the year and remain unbeaten in conference play at 6-0, while the Bears fall to 3-10 on the season and 0-6 in league action.
The Green and Gold came out strong, firing five straight scores, with five different Golden Eagles working into the scoring column.
Kelly Wall got things started, with
Taylor Thomas,
Andrea Zlinsky,
Hannah Cullen and
Jessica Boddery all adding unassisted goals for the early 5-0 lead with 14:43 to play.
Brockport saw the Bears net a goal, but worked to close the half with three straight goals. Boddery scored on back-to-back Wall assists, while Thomas added her second goal to take an 8-1 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Green and Gold offense continued to pour in goals while the Brockport defense handled their counterparts. The Golden Eagles notched eight straight scores, picking up right where they left off with a goal from Cullen in the opening 40 seconds of action. Wall chipped in back-to-back scores, while Thomas netted a hat-trick by the 21:22 mark for the 12-1 lead.
Boddery and Wall found the back of the cage within a two-minute span, with Cullen assisting both goals for the 14-1 edge.
Chloe Kurst netted her second goal of the season, burying a
Dana Kiselica feed and Kiselica found the back of the cage at the 3:17 mark for her first goal of 2017. The Golden Eagles saw the Bears work in a final score with 15 seconds remaining, but held on for the strong 16-2 victory.
The Green and Gold had the edge in all categories with a 26-12 tally in shots, a 31-6 edge in shots on goal, a 28-15 lead in ground balls and a 12-7 margin of victory in draw controls. The Golden Eagles forced 23 Potsdam turnovers and went 13-for-15 on clears.
Wall led the offensive efforts with seven points while Cullen and Boddery each added four points, with two goals and a pair of assists for Cullen and four scores for Boddery.
Katie Curran was a force on defense, picking up four ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Thomas added three GB's and a pair of caused turnovers while Wall and Zlinsky each accounted for two ground balls and two caused turnovers apiece. Brockport saw 17 caused turnovers on the day with 13 different Golden Eagles accounting for a CT.
Sara Shaddock picked up the win, and in over 50 minutes of action made four saves and had two ground balls.
Caitlin Cavallaro and
Sarah Brown both saw over four minutes in cage.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on April 25 when they host a title caliber matchup, as they faceoff against SUNY Cortland at 4 p.m.
