Softball Drops Two Against No.6 St. John Fisher

PITTSFORD, N.Y.- The College at Brockport softball team was swept in a double header with No. 6 St. John Fisher College on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles lost game one by a score of 6-0 and fell in the second contest 10-3. Brockport falls to 16-18 on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 30-5.

Game One:

The Golden Eagles were held scoreless in the first game, registering only three hits and stranding six runners on base. It was a pitchers dual for the first four innings of play, as neither team was able to push across any runs.

The Cardinals struck in the top of the fifth inning on a three-run home run. Fisher added to their lead in the sixth inning, scoring three more times to extend the lead to 6-0.

Becky Knorr falls to 4-4 on the season in the circle. The junior pitched 4.2 innings allowing three earned runs on nine hits and recording one strikeout.

Meghan Cullen had two of Brockport's three hits as a team, going 2-for-3 from the plate. Jessica Koneski had the third Golden Eagles hit, lacing a double to right center field in the bottom of the sixth inning, but was unable to come around and score.

Game Two

The Cardinals struck first in the second contest, scoring one in the first and four more in the third inning to take an early 5-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles were able to cut into the lead in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a couple of Fisher errors. Karleigh Eaton opened up the frame with a single through the left side of the infield, advancing to second on a single by Alison Missavage. Eaton was able to come across and score on an error on the left side of the infield and Missavage scored the next play on a passed ball.  Casey Danko came around to score the third run after walking and stealing a base earlier in the inning, scoring on a Cardinals error.

Brockport saw Fisher answered back, by scoring three more runs in the fifth and tacking on two more insurance runs in the seventh inning making the score 10-3.

Lindsay Wachna falls to 3-6 on the year, pitching five complete innings and striking out three batters. Amanda Colon pitched the final two frames allowing two runs on four hits and fanning two.

Cullen drove in the only Brockport run of the day, while Eaton, Missavage and Wachna all added a hit apiece.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, April 28 hosting a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) double header against SUNY Cortland. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
