Offense Shines In Sweep Of Potsdam

GENESEO, N.Y.- The College at Brockport softball team combined for 30 hits in a two-game sweep of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foes SUNY Potsdam on Sunday. The Golden Eagles took the first game 9-1 in five innings and then completed the sweep with a 10-2 victory.
 
Brockport improves to 10-8 on the season and moves to 2-2 in league play. The Bears drop to 3-10 on the season and 0-6 in SUNYAC action.
 
Game One:
 
The Green and Gold struck first, scoring three runs in the home half of the second inning. Morgan Flamholtz connected on an RBI single to left field and that was followed up by a two-run double off the bat of Alexis Ross extending the Golden Eagle lead to 3-0.
 
Brockport scored five runs on five hits in the fourth inning, with Flamholtz opening the frame with a double to left center. Casey Danko delivered the major blow, lacing a 2-RBI single down the left field line, to give the Golden Eagles a 9-1 advantage.
 
Lindsay Wachna had an all-around great game, going 3-for-3 from the plate and driving in one run. The junior, also picked up her first win of the season on the mound. Wachna pitched a complete game only surrendering four hits and allowing one earned run.
 
The Golden Eagles pounded out 14 hits as a team, including four extra base knocks. Alison Missavage, Jessica Koneski, Flamholtz and Ross each collected two hits for Brockport.
 
Game Two:
 
Brockport saw the Bears take the early lead in the second game, pushing across runs in both the first and second inning to take a 2-0 lead.
 
The Golden Eagles answered back in a big way in the bottom of the third, exploding for six runs. Brockport brought 10 batters to the plate in the frame.  The first five hitters of the inning record a hit, with Meghan Cullen delivering the biggest blow, a bases-loaded three-run double to centerfield. Wachna followed suite connecting on an RBI double and later scored on a single by Danko. One batter later, Koneski doubled home Danko to give Brockport a 6-2 lead.
 
Brockport tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning. Shelby Perry singled up the middle brining home Danko, and Ross followed that with a single that scored Koneski. A throwing error on Potsdam allowed Flamholtz to cross the plate extending, the lead to 9-2.
 
Michaela Contreras remains perfect on the season, improving to 4-0 on the mound. The freshman pitched a complete game, only allowing one earned run on five hits, with two strikeouts.
 
Brockport posted 16 hits and four doubles in the nightcap. Both Ross and Cullen had three hits and Danko, Flamholtz and Perry chipped in with two hits apiece.
 
Brockport returns to action on April 10, as the Golden Eagles host SUNY Plattsburgh in Geneseo, N.Y. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
