BROCKPORT N.Y. – The College at Brockport lost in a close 2-1 battle against Elmira College Tuesday evening. Brockport falls to 1-6 on the season, while the Soaring Eagles move to 1-6.
It was defensive battle throughout the first half, as it was hard for either team to get a successful shot on net. Elmira was first to get on the board with a goal in the 27th minute.
Margo Tremaine had the best chance in the first half to tie the game up late, but her shot was sent wide, ending the first half with a 1-0 advantage to the Soaring Eagles.
The Green and Gold answered quickly after the intermission, as
Katie Ziemba netted a goal three minutes into the second half. Brockport earned a penalty corner in the 47th minute that lead two shots from Tremaine and
Abby Meagher, that were both stopped by the goalie. Minutes later, Elmira got a penalty corner opportunity, in which Janie Kempf scored on the play to take a 2-1 lead.
In the 68th minute, Brockport had one last penalty corner chance. Meagher played the balled out to Ziemba who got a shot off, but it was blocked by an Elmira defender to end the game with a 2-1 Soaring Eagle victory.
The Brockport Field Hockey team will travel to New Paltz this Friday, Sept. 22nd when they open State University of New York Athletic Conference play, with the game slated to start at 4 p.m.
