Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Brockport Ices Game Late Against SUNY Geneseo

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport men's basketball team fought off a resilient SUNY Geneseo unit to win their first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game of the New Year by a score of 88-78. The win moves the Golden Eagles to a record of 9-3 on the year and 4-1 in conference, while the Knights drop to 5-6 on the season and 2-3 in league play.

The Green and Gold stumbled out the gate, allowing three straight three's to start the game. David Clark sunk a three, followed by a layup by Justin Summers to cut into the deficit. Brockport played patient basketball until the ten minute mark where they captured their first lead of the game, 19-18, off of a three pointer by Tyler Collins. Both teams traded buckets to change leads, but back-to-back makes from deep by Josh Nelson with six minutes left, allowed the Golden Eagles to attain a lead that they did not relinquish the rest of the game. Heading into half-time, Brockport was ahead 42-33.

Coming out of the break Clark and Summers both knocked in a pair of free-throws to increase the advantage to 13. The Knights used timely three-point shooting to cut the lead down to single digits, but senior guard Hamed Shamseldin nailed two treys of his own to stop any momentum the opposition was putting together. Dwayne Daniel and Clark sank threes of their own to give Brockport the largest lead of the game, 19, with 15:25 left in regulation. Geneseo mounted a comeback, but an impressive three-point play by Shamseldin and six straight made free-throws by Daniel, iced the game.

Shamseldin had a team high 23 points and grabbed six rebounds. It is the seventh time in eight games that Shamseldin scores 20 or more points. Summers registered his second straight double-double by knocking in 16 points and snagging 12 rebounds, while swatting away five shots. Daniel contributed 15 points, 12 of which came in the second half.

The Green and Gold take the rest of the weekend off before facing off against Buffalo St. at home on Tuesday, Jan. 9 for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
